PVC Flyscreen Frame, Per Metre

This is the frame that makes a magnetic window screen slim instead of bulky. Flexible PVC, not rigid aluminium, so it sits flat against the window and reads as part of it.

Sold by the metre so you can build a screen for an opening no stock size covers, or turn one large screen into several small ones.

It cuts with a blade or a strong pair of scissors and joins with corner pieces, which are sold separately, four to a screen.

Black, brown or white at the same price. Match the window frame and the finished screen more or less disappears from a distance.

Measure the perimeter of the window, add a little for cutting and corners, and order that many metres.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many metres do I need?

Measure around the perimeter of the window and add a little for cutting waste and corners. An offcut is a much better problem than a shortfall.

How do I cut it?

A cutting blade or a strong pair of scissors. No tradesman tools.

How do the corners join?

With corner pieces, which are sold separately. One screen needs four of them, and a set includes four plus two wind clips.

What else do I need to build a screen?

This profile, a corner piece set, a sheet of replacement mesh and magnetic strip by the metre. All four are sold separately here.

Why PVC rather than aluminium?

Bulk. A rigid aluminium frame stands proud of the window and is obvious from the street. This flexible profile sits flat against it, which is why these screens are close to invisible from a distance.

Does it come in colours?

Black, brown and white, all the same price. The frame is the part people actually see, so match it to the window.

Which colour should I pick?

Whatever the window frame already is. White on uPVC, brown on timber, black on dark aluminium.

Can I frame a window that is not square?

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to build rather than buy. You cut each length to its own side, so a crooked opening in an old house is no harder than a neat one.

Can I make two screens out of one large one?

Yes, and it is usually the cheapest way to screen a whole house. Cut the mesh down and frame each new panel with this.

Will it go round a curve?

It is flexible, but it is a straight-run profile joined at corners. A gentle curve is possible; an arch is a different job, so ask first.

Is it strong enough on a large window?

For the sizes we sell as finished screens, yes. On a very large panel the wind clips in the corner set are what stop it flexing in a gust.

Will it fade or go brittle in the sun?

It is specified for window use and it holds up to a season in the sun. PVC left outdoors for many years will always weather eventually.

Will it rust?

No. It is PVC. That is one of the reasons it is used instead of metal.

Can I use it with the velcro screens?

No. The velcro screens have no frame at all, which is why they cost less. This profile is for the magnetic ones.

Does the mesh clip into it?

The mesh is held in the profile as the finished screens are built. If you have not assembled one before, order the corner set at the same time and work with the whole kit in front of you.

Can I repair one broken side?

Yes. Buy the metres you need for that side and a corner set if the corners went with it. That is a fraction of a new screen.

Is there a minimum order?

It is sold by the metre, so order the number of metres you need.

Can I join two lengths in one side?

Better not to, on a visible run. Order the length you need in one piece where you can.

How do I store the offcut?

Flat and dry. Do not leave it kinked, because a kink in a flexible profile does not come out.

How do I clean the finished screen?

A damp cloth on the frame, and warm soapy water on the mesh if it needs it.

Will it mark the window frame?

No. Nothing about this system is drilled or screwed into the frame. The magnetic strip is what holds the finished screen, and that lifts away clean.

Can I paint it?

There is no need, since it comes in three colours. Paint on flexible PVC tends to crack when the profile flexes.

Is it the same profile as on your finished screens?

Yes. That is the point: a screen bought here can be repaired or extended in exactly what it was built from.

What if my window is a shape you do not stock?

That is precisely what buying by the metre is for. If you would rather not build it, ask us, because these are made to order as well.

How long does delivery take?

Allow five to seven days. Demand runs hard through the warm months and we would rather quote the real number than the optimistic one.

Is delivery free?

Orders over EUR 50 ship free anywhere in Austria, which saves the EUR 22 express charge.

Does it come with corner pieces?

No. Corner pieces are a separate set, four corners plus two wind clips, and one set makes one screen.

Does it come with mesh or magnetic strip?

No. This is the frame profile only. Mesh and magnetic strip are both sold separately here.

What length does it arrive in?

It is cut to the number of metres you order. Order the perimeter plus a little for cutting waste.

Can I order more later to match?

Yes. It is stock in all three colours, so a second order matches the first.

Buying PVC flyscreen frame by the metre

5 min read Magnetic Screens

What this is

The flexible PVC profile that a magnetic window screen is built on.

A finished screen is four things: this frame, a set of corner pieces, a sheet of mesh, and magnetic strip. All four are sold separately here, which means any window in the country can be screened whether or not a stock size happens to fit it.

Why the frame is PVC

Because the alternative is aluminium, and aluminium is the reason traditional fly screens look the way they do: rigid, bulky, standing proud of the window and obvious from the street.

This profile is flexible. It sits flat against the window, it follows a frame that is not quite true, and at any distance the finished screen more or less disappears. That is not a cosmetic detail, it is most of the reason people choose these over a framed screen in the first place.

It will not rust and it will not corrode, which is the other thing it has over metal.

Working out how much

Measure around the perimeter of the window. Add a little for cutting waste, and a little more for the corners, which eat more than people expect.

Order that many metres. An offcut in a drawer beats a shortfall with the old screen already off the window and the light going.

Order the corner pieces at the same time. One screen needs four, and a set is four corners plus two wind clips.

Cutting and joining

A cutting blade or a strong pair of scissors. No tradesman tools, no mitre saw, no workshop.

Cut each side to its own measurement, which is the reason this suits older houses. A window that is out of square is no harder than one that is not, because you are working to the opening rather than hoping a rectangle fits it.

The corner pieces do the joining. The wind clips in the set are what stop a larger panel flexing in a gust, so use them on the bigger screens rather than leaving them in the packet.

Colour

Black, brown or white, all the same price.

The frame is the part anybody sees; the mesh is not. Match it to the window frame you already have, and the screen stops being a thing on the window and becomes part of it.

Building versus buying

If a stock size fits your window, buy the finished screen. It is cheaper and quicker.

Build when the window is an odd size or an odd shape, when you want to turn one large screen into several small ones, or when you are repairing a screen where one side has been damaged and the rest is perfectly good.

Page summary

PVC Flyscreen Frame sold per metre: the flexible PVC profile used to build, extend and repair magnetic window fly screens. Available in black, brown or white at the same price. Cuts to length with a cutting blade or strong scissors with no tradesman tools, and is joined at the corners with corner pieces, which are sold separately at four per screen. Flexible PVC rather than rigid aluminium, which is what makes a finished screen slim and close to invisible at a distance rather than bulky and obtrusive. Commonly bought to make several smaller screens out of one larger one, or to frame an out-of-square or non-standard opening in an older house. Sold alongside corner piece sets, magnetic strip by the metre and replacement flyscreen mesh, which together make a complete screen.
