I purchased the chain screen door to keep bugs out. First, I don't think it keeps the mosquitoes out of the house. Second, it is very easily damaged as people pass through it -- the chains catch on clothes or things that people are carrying. Third, my dog has been able to pull it down multiple times. Fourth, the hangers are very wobbly and it sometimes falls down with just the slightest tug. Customers are not able to post reviews of products on the website, so buyer beware. I asked the company for a refund/credit, and they refused saying it had been too long since purchase (6 months) and that no one else has complained so it must be my fault. Of course, they don't allow reviews so there is no way to know. Regardless, very unhappy with product and service.

Do I get both strips or just one?
Both. A magnetic screen needs the strip secured to the frame and the self-adhesive one that mates with it, and the price per metre covers both.
How many metres do I need?
Measure around the perimeter of the opening and add a little for cutting waste and corners. An offcut is better than being half a metre short.
How do I cut it?
Ordinary scissors. No tools and no blade needed.
Will it damage the window frame?
No. It sticks down without drilling and lifts away again without leaving a mark, which is why these screens work in rented flats.
What surfaces will it stick to?
Clean, dry, flat window frames in wood, uPVC or aluminium. Clean the surface first, because the adhesive gets one attempt.
Do I need to prepare the frame?
Yes. Get the dust and grease off, finish with an alcohol wipe, and let it dry. Almost every strip that lets go later was fitted onto a frame that was not clean.
Does temperature matter when I fit it?
It does. Work at 18 degrees or warmer in dry air, and warm the frame with a hair dryer first if the room is cold.
What is it for?

Can I make two screens out of one?

My screen has stopped closing properly. Is this the fix?
Usually. A seam that no longer seats flush is almost always tired or dirty strip rather than a failed screen, and replacing the strip is a fraction of the price.
Can I use it on a door screen?
It is sold for window screens. On a door, the magnetic seam is sewn into the screen itself, so this is not the repair part for one.
Will it hold in the wind?
A continuous run of strip grips along the whole edge rather than at points, which is what stops a gust lifting a corner. Leave no gaps at the corners.
Does it come in colours?
The strip is the functional part rather than the visible one. The visible part is the PVC frame, and that comes in black, brown and white.
How strong is the magnet?
Strong enough to hold a cut-to-size window screen flat against a frame through a season, which is what it is specified for.
Will it lose its magnetism?
Magnet attraction on our magnetic screens carries a lifetime warranty, which is the same material question. It is not the part that wears out.
Can I stick it to glass?
It is meant for the frame, not the glass. Frame is where it holds and where it can be removed cleanly.
Can I paint over it?
No. Paint on a magnetic seam stops it seating flush, which is the one thing it has to do.
How do I store the spare?
Flat or loosely rolled, somewhere dry. Do not leave it creased.
Can I join two lengths?
Yes, butt them end to end on the same run. Keep the join away from a corner if you can.

Can I use it for something other than screens?
People do, for cupboard doors and similar. It is sold and specified as flyscreen strip, so anything else is your own experiment.

is worth stating plainly, because it is what people assume and not always what they get.
Why anyone buys strip on its own
Three reasons, and they cover almost every order.
The first is building a screen for an opening that no stock size covers. Buy PVC frame by the
metre, a corner piece set, a sheet of mesh and this strip, and you can screen any shape of window.
The second is splitting. One large magnetic screen cut down makes two or three small ones, which
is usually the cheapest way to do a whole house, and each new panel needs its own run of strip.
The third is repair. A magnetic screen that has stopped sitting flush is almost never a failed
screen. It is tired or dirty strip, and a few metres fixes it for a fraction of a replacement.
